Deputy Director of Enterprise Risk Management


POSITION SUMMARY

CI’s Deputy Director for Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance is responsible for supporting CI’s existing culture of strategic risk management and the coordination and management of CI’s related Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) processes, tools, and systems, including in the areas of risk management, compliance, investigations, training, policy management, and communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support CI’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) processes and systems including coordinating elements related to its annual risk management assessment and monitoring implementation of CI’s annual Risk Management Plan. Position will also monitor compliance and risk mitigation status globally including of key ERM performance metrics for purposes of communicating and reporting to senior management.
  • Support CI’s independent investigatory function, ensuring timely response to all reports, and the management and tracking of engagements from receipt to resolution. Position will also directly support investigations, remotely and in the field, under the supervision of the S. Director for ERM.
  • Perform regular and systematic sampling and testing of financial and operational activity for compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as external obligations, including donor and grantee compliance and US and International obligations.
  • In support of CI’s Policy Management function, ensure that programs have access to current legal and compliance documentation and materials, including ethics hotline posters, ethics, and integrity posters, and that changes are properly approved, tracked, communicated globally, and updated on its global policy management platform.
  • Support management of CI’s global insurance portfolio including its annual renewal cycle and coordinating with other programs and divisions within CI to ensure that coverage is current and adequately addresses the operational profile of CI, its geographic footprint, and all existing assets and resources. In addition, the position will request and process certificates of insurance working with CI’s external insurance broker and manage all claims and coverage incidents to ensure optimal coverage and maximize reimbursement for losses.
  • Support and coordinate trainings led by the Enterprise Risk Management and the Legal teams, including scheduling, planning, and material preparation.
  • Support and provide coordination for CI’s centralized system for compiling and tracking any complaints and concerns raised through CI’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF) and Global Grievance Mechanism.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position could be based in Mexico, Kenya, South Africa, or Ecuador. 
  • The position will be expected to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • An undergraduate degree (equivalent to a BA/BS) plus 7 or more years of previous relevant work experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a global portfolio of investigations, preferably with a certification as CFE or CIA.
  • Management experience in a complex global compliance and risk management environment, knowledge of and working experience with Enterprise Risk Management frameworks.
  • A proactive and dynamic approach to working that supports informed decision-making, particularly on challenging and complex issues.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building competencies and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong management skills in collaboration, team building, capacity development, and with ability to deliver quality results on time.  
  • Professional level written and oral fluency in English required.

TWENDE Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya. 

The position’s primary focus & responsibilities are related to the project management and delivery of CI’s responsibilities pertaining to the GCF Funded TWENDE project; across the three landscapes as described in the project document. The position is expected to be based in Nairobi or in one of the field locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The position’s primary focus & responsibilities are related to project management and delivery of the GCF-funded TWENDE project: Reporting to the TWENDE Technical lead, the individual is responsible for Project Management functions including:

  • Oversee our Service Providers in the field implementation of their TWENDE project activities across 3 landscapes (Chyulu Hills, Mid-Tana, and Sabarwawa landscape). Monitor contracted service provider activities in the field to ensure quality, timely, and efficiency in delivery in line with contractual agreements.
  • Play a central role in the design and implementation of activities encompassing enterprise development grants and facilitating technical assistance to community and local enterprises.
  • Assist the CI Technical Lead and CI Program Director in engaging all field-based project stakeholders including TWENDE project partners, government institutions, communities, development sector, private sector, etc.
  • Take a thought leadership role in working with CI and external stakeholders in designing and implementing landscape-wide program implementation through factoring in complimentary CI and partner projects active across the 3 landscapes, while ensuring the approaches remain closely aligned to those of other TWENDE project stakeholders.
  • Play a central role in compiling field-based project reports and communication materials.
  • Ensure continuous delivery risk assessment and mitigation measures are put in place.
  • Contribute to CI’s overarching strategy in the Northern Kenya landscape, as well as the Kenya country strategy.
  • Actively engage and work with relevant colleagues in developing new and complementary program opportunities in the TWENDE project landscapes.
  • Collaborate closely with the Southern Kenya manager based in Chyulu Hills.
  • Offer support to the technical lead on other cross-cutting thematic functions as may be delegated from time to time.
  • Any other project-specific roles may be assigned by the supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours to meet deadlines as needed.
  • This is a position eligible for persons who have the right to work in Kenya without CI sponsorship.
  • The position is for a fixed term for a period of 2.5 years.
  • Guidance on flexible work arrangements will be shared during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental management, rural enterprise development, or any other relevant field.
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in conservation or rural enterprise development project management.
  • Strong experience delivering enterprise development and technical assistance to community groups and local SMEs, including small grant facilities.
  • Deep knowledge of the rangelands economy in Kenya and beyond. Experience in overseeing the restoration and climate resilience interventions, in arid and semi-arid context.
  • Proven track record in pastoral and agro-pastoral community engagement.
  • Strong experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and pubic donors.
  • A self-starter able to work remotely under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to start work in the short term.
  • Eligible to live and work in Kenya without employer’s sponsorship.

Preferred

  • A post-graduate degree would be an added advantage.
