NAP Technical Supplementary Material Consultant

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultancy is located in the Climate Change and Urban Environment Team of the Programme Development Branch. Under the overall guidance of the Subprogramme Coordinator of the Climate Change and Urban Environment Team, and direct supervision by the Programme Management Officer for Climate Change, the consultancy will involve the following typical main duties leading to the ultimate requested outputs: 1. Develop a NAP supplementary material for member states based on existing publication including the UN-Habitat's Discussion paper on a quantitative methodology to assess NBS for climate resilience approaches in informal areas.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualification

  • A degree in urban planning, environmental science, environmental policies, climate change, or related field is required.

Professional Experience

  • At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in climate resilience, climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, public policy, planning, or related field is required.
  • Experience in developing climate adaptation technical materials for national or local governments or international organizations is required.
  • Experience in leading Expert Group Reviews for publications is desirable.
  • Strong communications skills are highly desirable.
  • Experience on projects in the developing world is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in other UN languages is an advantage.

Knowledge Management and Advocacy Consultant

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultancy is located in the Climate Change and Urban Environment Team of the Programme Development Branch. Under the overall guidance of the Subprogramme Coordinator of the Climate Change and Urban Environment Team, and direct supervision by the Programme Management Officer for Climate Change, the consultancy will involve the following typical main duties leading to the ultimate requested outputs: 1. Roll out of the RISE UP Secretariat globally and in cooperation with target Member States to push for inclusive integration of biodiversity and vulnerable urban poor needs in the policy environment, multilateral and bilateral climate finance, and programmatic design and implementation.

Develop the repository of the knowledge management strategy so that it can be publicly available and become a hub for knowledge working closely with different partnerships integrating biodiversity in the climate change discourse.

Strengthen the communication with partners, keeping them engaged as a community (as part of the knowledge management).

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualification

  • A degree in urban planning, environmental science, environmental policies, climate change, or related field is required.

  • Experience in sustainable development, sustainability management and working with an international organisation is desirable.

Programme Management Officer

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in land and natural resources management, urban development, social sciences, economics, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects through results-based management approach is desirable.
  • Experience in land governance and monitoring as well as in the application of comparable indicators to promote land tenure security via normative knowledge, tools, and methodologies is desirable.
  • Work experience of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
