Job Summary
To support the engineering and architectural teams by conducting materials testing, quality control inspections, and site-based verification of construction materials for both road infrastructure and building projects. The Laboratory Technician will ensure that all materials used on site comply with approved specifications, standards, and project requirements.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct field and laboratory testing of materials including soil, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, steel, and building materials in accordance with approved standards and project specifications.
- Perform soil tests such as moisture content, sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, compaction tests, and CBR testing for road works.
- Carry out concrete cube casting, curing, slump tests, and compressive strength testing for building and infrastructure works.
- Support quality control for architectural building works including concrete works, masonry, plaster, finishes, and structural elements.
- Verify material compliance before use on site and report any non-conformities to supervising engineers.
- Assist in sampling, labelling, and maintaining proper documentation of all test results.
- Maintain daily laboratory logs, test registers, and quality reports.
- Work closely with Civil Engineers and Architectural Engineers to ensure construction materials meet required standards.
- Participate in site inspections and quality assurance checks.
- Maintain and properly handle laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Construction, or related field.
- 2–4 years practical experience in construction materials testing, preferably in road or building projects.
- Experience working on public infrastructure projects (KURA, KeNHA, County projects) is an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience in site-based laboratory operations.
