Job Purpose

To provide accurate, timely, reliable, and safe laboratory diagnostic services on a need basis, in support of the delivery of quality medical and healthcare services at the University, while ensuring compliance with applicable professional, laboratory, quality assurance, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests and procedures accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with approved standards.
  • Receive, identify, process, and safely handle patient specimens.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure accurate recording, verification, and reporting of laboratory results.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Observe laboratory safety, infection prevention, and waste management requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of reagents and laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Support clinicians and other healthcare personnel by providing timely and reliable laboratory information.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, quality concerns, or other issues affecting laboratory services to the Head of Medical Department.
  • Perform any other duties related to laboratory services as assigned by the Head of Medical Department.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Technology or an equivalent relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Must be duly registered and hold a valid practising licence from the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • Two (2) years experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance, safety procedures, and applicable professional standards.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • High level of accuracy, integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
