Job Purpose

To perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures by preparing, administering, and imaging radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring patient safety, accurate results, and adherence to quality and regulatory standards.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head, Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  • Reviewing PET/CT and SPECT/CT request forms and ensuring proper approval and protocoling by the Nuclear Medicine Physician.
  • Consulting with the Nuclear Medicine Physician on requests and protocols for imaging procedures.
  • Clerking patients for scans and preparing them for nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Explaining procedures to patients clearly and compassionately to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Reconstituting radiopharmaceuticals accurately and safely in accordance with radiation safety standards.
  • Performing PET, SPECT, and planar imaging examinations while adhering to quality and safety protocols.
  • Ensuring patient safety through pre-screening for contraindications, aseptic injection techniques, and compliance with radiation safety regulations.
  • Administering diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, including radioiodine and Lutetium-177, under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Physician, in compliance with radiation safety and clinical protocols.
  • Troubleshooting scanners, couches, and peripheral equipment to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Processing, maintaining, and disseminating acquired imaging data to nuclear medicine workstations and tele-reporting systems, ensuring timely transfer for reporting and accurate documentation in line with established protocols.
  • Documenting and maintaining departmental records and stock control of consumables.
  • Conduct necessary quality control on all equipment as required.
  • Performing any other duty as may be assigned.

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Radiography or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year hands-on experience in a Nuclear Medicine Unit.
  • Hold a valid license from the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KENRA).
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including familiarity with Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
