Responsibilities or duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The job holder will be responsible for the following:

  • Being the accounting and authorized officer of the Company;
  • Providing strategic leadership and overall executive management of the Company by driving the realization of its vision, mission, strategic objectives, and long-term sustainability;
  • Leading the development and execution of the Company's corporate strategy, annual business plans, policies, budgets, and performance targets, while ensuring alignment with Board directives, shareholder expectations, and national development priorities;
  • Directing the day-to-day operations of the Company by overseeing organizational performance, optimizing operational efficiency, and ensuring the effective utilization of financial, human, technological, and physical resources;
  • Advising and supporting the Board by submitting strategic proposals, budgets, policies, investment plans, and performance reports, while implementing Board resolutions and maintaining effective corporate governance;
  • Providing leadership in enterprise risk management, internal controls, business continuity, legal and regulatory compliance, and ethical governance to safeguard the Company's assets, reputation, and long-term interests;
  • Overseeing the Company's financial performance, capital investments, resource allocation, and operational results to achieve sustainable growth, profitability, and shareholder value;
  • Driving innovation, organizational transformation, operational excellence, digitalization, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance organizational competitiveness and service deliver;
  • Leading stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships by representing the Company with Government, regulators, shareholders, development partners, investors, customers, industry associations, and other stakeholders, while providing strategic input into national energy policy and sector development;
  • Promoting a high-performance organizational culture by providing executive leadership, strengthening organizational capability, fostering talent development and succession planning, and embedding accountability, integrity, inclusion, and continuous learning throughout the Company;
  • Serving as the Company's principal spokesperson by safeguarding and enhancing its corporate reputation, promoting effective communication, and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ensuring compliance with the Constitution of Kenya, applicable laws, regulations, corporate governance requirements, environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, and other statutory obligations while promoting sustainable business practices; and
  • Monitoring developments in the energy sector and the broader business environment while identifying strategic opportunities, emerging risks, and innovation initiatives that support the Company's long-term growth and resilience.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The Chief Executive Officer of a Government Owned Enterprise shall be a member of the Board of directors but shall not have the power to vote.

A person shall qualify for appointment as a Chief Executive Officer, if such person—

  • Holds a degree in the relevant field from a university recognized in Kenya;
  • Has at least ten (10) years work experience in a relevant field;
  • Has served in a position of senior management for a period of at least five (5) years; and
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
