About rescue.co
Rescue.co is a fast-growing emergency response tech company. Our 24/7 Dispatch Center serves millions of Kenyans, and our platform powers the largest ambulance and responder network in East Africa cutting response times by over 80%.
Our values: Consistency, Design with EQ, Always Questioning, and Alignment.
About the role
As a Medical Dispatcher, you'll provide clinical support across our emergency operations. You'll coordinate medical transfers and high-acuity rescues, making sure every patient gets the right level of care from the first call through to hospital handover.
This role needs advanced medical knowledge, especially in maternity, neonatal, and trauma cases. You'll guide patients, ambulance teams, and hospital teams on our protocols with calm authority, and you'll need to pick up new systems and standards fast.
You'll also support complex incidents by delivering effective pre-arrival care, coordinating resources safely, and assisting with inter-hospital transfer communication.
What you'll do
- Provide protocol-based guidelines and instructions
- Use SOPs and system guides for case management and clinical support: monitor ongoing cases, including high-acuity cases and hospital referrals
- Assess and escalate: review vital signs and patient reports during live cases, spot red flags, and ensure the right escalation or intervention
- Coordinate patient transfers: manage inter-facility transfers so each patient gets the appropriate level of care and transport
- Use modern dispatch tools to track and deploy the right providers, reach patients fast, and enter and review key data points in real time
- Collaborate with medical facilities: liaise with hospitals for clear communication and smooth handovers
What we're looking for
Must have
- Medical background: Physician, Nurse, Clinical Officer, Advanced Paramedic, or equivalent
- 3 to 6 years of relevant experience
- Experience in emergency medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics, or intensive care
- Strong over-the-phone clinical care skills
- Excellent communication in English and Swahili, both verbal and written
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay calm in dynamic situations
- Ability to follow protocols and problem-solve
- Comfort using technology and dispatch or clinical software
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM (blind typing required)
Nice to have
- Experience in dispatch, call center, emergency coordination, or teleconsult call center environments
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, NRP, or similar advanced life support programs
- Passion for quality assurance and improving emergency care systems
