Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for performing complex diagnostic tests and analyses on clinical specimens to actively assist medical clinicians in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. The successful candidate will strictly execute daily laboratory procedures in absolute compliance with established clinical protocols and rigorous institutional quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process, analyze, and perform complex diagnostic tests on diverse clinical specimens (including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and serology).
  • Maintain strict adherence to established laboratory protocols, safety standards, and biosafety guidelines.
  • Implement and uphold rigorous Laboratory Quality Management Systems (QMS) initiatives to ensure accurate, reproducible test results.
  • Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on sophisticated laboratory analyzers and diagnostic equipment.
  • Manage, log, and retrieve patient diagnostic data efficiently utilizing the internal Health Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Ensure prompt turn-around times for laboratory results and systematically flag critical/panic values to the clinical team.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and fully stocked laboratory environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of active clinical internship working experience.
  • Professional Registration: Must be fully registered and hold a valid, current practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
  • Technical Competencies: Formally trained in and capable of demonstrating a thorough understanding of Laboratory Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Digital Literacy: Highly proficient in basic computer skills, with specific experience utilizing Health Management Information Systems (HMIS).
  • Core Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication, strong attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate within a multidisciplinary medical team.
