Role Purpose
Talent Grid Africa on behalf of their client in the food processing industry is hiring a Packhouse Production Supervisor. The Packhouse Production Supervisor will be responsible for supporting and overseeing daily production operations in the vegetables packhouse by planning, coordinating, and supervising all production activities to ensure customer orders are processed efficiently, meet quality standards, and are dispatched on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan daily production based on confirmed customer orders.
- Ensure all orders are processed, packed, and dispatched on time.
- Coordinate with technical, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure raw material availability.
- Monitor order progress throughout the day and take corrective action where delays arise.
- Ensure correct product specifications are followed per client requirements.
- Supervise graders and production staff on the floor.
- Ensure graders are achieving set productivity targets (kgs/hour or per shift).
- Monitor individual and team performance and report variances.
- Ensure proper labor planning and optimal staff allocation per line.
- Enforce discipline and adherence to production schedules.
- Ensure grading standards are strictly followed.
- Work closely with QA to minimize rejects and customer complaints.
- Ensure proper documentation of production records and traceability.
- Maintain hygiene and food safety standards in the production area.
- Minimize wastage during grading and packing.
- Monitor yield performance and report daily production summaries.
- Ensure proper use of packaging materials and prevent losses.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Ensure machines and equipment are used properly.
- Report maintenance issues promptly.
- Ensure the production floor is organized and safe.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields: Horticulture, Food Science & Technology, Agribusiness Management, Supply Chain Management, Production/Operations Management
- Additional training in food safety systems such as GlobalG.A.P., BRCGS, or HACCP is an added advantage.
- Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in a fresh produce packhouse or food processing environment.
- Experience supervising production staff (especially graders on piece-rate system).
- Experience handling export orders for European or international markets is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in production planning and meeting strict dispatch timelines.
- Strong understanding of: Grading standards for vegetables (French beans, snow peas, sugar snaps).
- Ability to interpret daily production data and prepare accurate reports.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, production reporting systems).
