The People & Culture Officer will be responsible for supporting the overall P&C function of ACE in employee management, recruitment, compliance with labor laws, and fostering a positive workplace
culture.
At African Clean Energy, you will:
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Recruitment Support: Support TA Officer in reviewing and posting job vacancies, reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting initial screening inline with local labor market needs and legal requirements.
- Onboarding: Oversee the onboarding process, ensuring that employees are properly introduced to the company, its culture, and their roles. This includes preparing welcome materials, providing necessary paperwork, and setting up initial training sessions.
Employee Records and Documentation
- Managing Employee Files: Ensure that all employee records, including contracts, performance evaluations, and personal details, are maintained accurately and confidentially in accordance with local data protection laws.
- Documentation Compliance: Ensures that all necessary legal documentation, such as work permits (if applicable), tax forms, and contracts, are kept up to date and compliant with Kenyan or Ugandan labor regulations.
Employee Relations and Support
- Addressing Employee Inquiries: Serve as the first point of contact for employees regarding P&C policies, benefits, payroll, and other work-related queries.
- Employee Grievances: Help mediate and resolve issues in alignment with the company’s values and local labor laws.
- Promoting a Positive Work Environment: Ensures a respectful and inclusive work culture by promoting employee engagement activities and supporting initiatives to foster teamwork and collaboration.
Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Payroll Management: Process payroll accurately and on time, factoring in employee wages, overtime, deductions, and statutory benefits such as pensions or social security contributions.
- Benefits Management: Oversees employee benefits, ensuring that eligible employees receive their benefits, such as health insurance, leave entitlements, and retirement contributions. This includes complying with country-specific regulations like Kenya’s National Social Security Fund (NSSF) or Uganda’s National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
Training and Development
- Employee Training: The P&C Officer coordinates training programs to improve employee skills
and performance. They may also support the creation of development programs for leadership, compliance, and technical skills.
- Promoting Career Development: Assists in identifying high-potential employees and helping them grow within the organization through the P&C development programs, mentorships, or leadership training.
Compliance with Labor Laws
- Legal Compliance: Ensure that the ACE is in full compliance with the labor laws of Kenya or Uganda. This includes understanding and adhering to statutory regulations related to employment contracts, termination, working hours, wages, and health and safety.
- Ensuring Fair Practices: Ensure that all employees are treated fairly and equitably, promoting
diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in the workplace.
Health and Safety
- Workplace Safety: Ensure that ACE adheres to local health and safety laws, conducting safety audits and implementing measures to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Employee Well-being: Supports employee wellness initiatives, including mental health programs and stress management workshops.
Performance Management
- Performance Reviews: Coordinate the performance appraisal system, helping managers conduct evaluations, providing feedback to employees, and assisting in the creation of personal development plans.
- Disciplinary Actions: Assist in implementing disciplinary related actions in case of poor performance or misconduct inline with ACE’s disciplinary procedures and with local labor laws.

- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar HR/People & Culture role.
- Must be a member of IHRM (Kenya) or actively working toward certification is a plus.
