Principal Finance Officer (Tax) Job Grade KSC 5 (1 Post)

Job Description
Reporting to the Finance Manager.

Duties and responsibilities include:
i) Ensure monthly tax returns (VAT, excise duty and withholding tax) are prepared and submitted to KRA within prescribed timelines.
ii) Continually review the overall management of tax compliance processes within the Company.
iii) Coordinate with external tax advisors on corporation tax computations and returns and ensure timely submissions.
iv) Provide advice to Management on the tax implications of key transactions and ad hoc projects, including related party transactions.
v) Implement legislative changes on tax in a timely manner.
vi) Manage relationships with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and external tax service providers for tax-related queries related to the Seed Industry.
vii) Proactively research solutions and provide solutions for any emerging tax issues in the Company.
viii) Prepare periodic accounting (income and deferred tax) provisions and related financial statement disclosures, including tax planning and forecasting reports.
ix) Provide oversight on PAYE for payroll purposes
x) Provide mentorship and support to Finance staff to ensure optimization of tax efficiencies and mitigation of tax exposures to the Company.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, one must have:
i) Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting Economics, Business Administration or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
ii) At least eight (8) years’ relevant work experience in progressive tax finance roles, including tax reporting, compliance and accounting Finance/Accounting in public service or private sector three (3) of which must have been in a supervisory role.
iii) In depth experience and technical knowledge of tax accounting and disclosures for accounting purposes, including deferred tax and prior year adjustments.
iv) Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
v) Full professional qualification in accounting e.g. ACCA, CPA or CTA.
vi) Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
vii) Good interpersonal skills.
viii) Working knowledge in computer applications.
ix) Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
