Job Specifications
- An officer at this level may be deployed in either a land survey or quantity survey functional areas.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
Land Survey
- Being in charge of Land Survey functional section;
- Formulating, implementing and reviewing land survey and management policies, strategies and programmes;
- Coordinating general boundaries surveys, cadastral, adjudication, subdivisional schemes, photo control and engineering surveys;
- Coordinating astronomical, gravity and magnetic surveys, and preparation and publication of plans, maps and charts;
- Coordinating standardization and certification of survey equipment;
- Monitoring and evaluating of survey and mapping activities;
- Preparing and submitting technical and administrative reports;
- Coordinating development and implementation of strategic and work plans;
- Managing staff performance;
- Building capacity of the Land Survey Section; and
- Planning, budgeting and ensuring effective use of resources.
Quantity Survey
- Oversee the preparation of project estimates and Bills of Quantities;
- Manage, maintenance and update Estimates and Bills of Quantity records;
- Make requisition of resources to facilitate data collection for measurements for architectural and conservation works;
- Coordinate preparation of specifications for works to be contracted out;
- Coordinate preparation of estimates for built and designed works of all categories and archiving;
- Managing staff performance;
- Building capacity of the Quantity Survey Section; and
- Planning, budgeting and ensuring effective use of resources.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, an officer must be in possession of:-
- Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Land Surveying, Land Management, Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Geomatics, Geomatics Engineering, Technology in Geomatics, Technology in Geo-informatics, Geospatial Engineering, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Urban or Regional Planning, Sustainable Urban Development, Hydrography, Environmental Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Land Surveying, Geospatial Engineering; Geomatics Engineering; Geomatics Engineering and Geospatial Information Systems, Technology in Survey or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
- Membership to a relevant professional body in good standing where applicable;
- Valid practicing license;
- Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Have ten (10) years relevant work experience four (4) of which should be at the supervisory level;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
