Background

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) was established by the Government of Kenya on the 14th of January 2013 under an Act of Parliament-Act No.4 of 2013, to provide research based curricula and curriculum support materials responsive to the needs of the society.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee television and emerging media productions from concept development, audience and content research, programme briefing and script development through pre-production, production, post-production and transmission.
• Supervise and quality-assure programme content and production processes, including directing, studio and field production, recording and editing, and review of scripts and final outputs to ensure accuracy, relevance, high production standards and compliance with editorial, regulatory and institutional requirements.
• Coordinate and manage production teams and resources, including directors, producers, scriptwriters, presenters, editors, actors and technical personnel; allocate responsibilities, monitor performance and ensure programmes are delivered within approved timelines and budgets.
• Supervise, mentor and develop production staff, assistants and interns, while fostering teamwork, creativity, professionalism and a collaborative production environment.
• Monitor audience response and emerging media trends, including surveys, ratings and stakeholder feedback, and use the findings to improve programme content, quality, relevance, accessibility and audience engagement.
• Promote innovation and adoption of emerging media technologies and production approaches, and maintain appropriate production records and reports to support accountability, evaluation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Requirements

Requirement for Appointment

• Cumulative service period of nine (9) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been at the KICD Grade 6 Senior Programme Production Officer or comparable position
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Media Studies, Media Science, Mass Communication, Education or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized
• Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing;
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
• Proficiency in computer applications
