Job Purpose

The Professional Chef is responsible for preparing high-quality meals, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, and ensuring consistency in food production. The role requires creativity, efficiency, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen while delivering an exceptional dining experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present meals according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Ensure consistency in food quality, taste, presentation, and portion sizes.
  • Assist in planning menus and introducing new dishes where appropriate.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, sanitation, and workplace cleanliness.
  • Monitor food stock levels and communicate replenishment needs to management.
  • Receive, inspect, and store food supplies in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Minimize food waste through proper planning and portion control.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
  • Comply with health, safety, and food handling regulations at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with waitstaff and other kitchen personnel to ensure timely service.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff where required.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certificate in Food Production, Culinary Arts, Catering, Hospitality Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Relevant professional cooking experience is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques, menu planning, and food safety standards.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent culinary and food preparation skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet service deadlines.
  • Creativity and attention to detail.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and reliability.
  • Certificate in Hospitality, Food Production, Food & Beverage Service, Catering, or a related hospitality course.
  • Relevant work experience is an added advantage.
