Job Purpose
To ensure that all CKD-assembled appliances consistently meet Hotpoint’s quality, safety, and performance standards by overseeing quality control processes, driving compliance with established specifications and procedures, preventing defects, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement throughout the production process to deliver reliable products and enhance customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities or duties
- Supervise daily quality control activities for CKD assembly of free-standing cookers, including incoming, in-process, final inspection, and product release checks.
- Ensure all cooker assemblies comply with approved specifications, drawings, work instructions, safety requirements, and Hotpoint quality standards.
- Ensure daily targets is achieved with strong focus on First-Time-Yield (FTY) production and zero defect
- Coordinate and guide production teams to prevent defects and maintain consistent workmanship across all assembly stations.
- Monitor critical quality points including component fitment, gas/electrical safety checks, visual finish, functionality, labeling, packaging, and final product conformity.
- Investigate non-conformities, customer complaints, rework trends, and process deviations, then drive root-cause analysis, containment, corrective action, and preventive action closure.
- Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, defect logs, audit findings, rework reports, and product release documentation.
- Conduct process audits, 6S checks, and quality Gemba walks to verify compliance with standard operating procedures and identify improvement opportunities.
- Train and coach production Fitters/Assemblers/Operators on quality standards, inspection methods, defect identification, safe product handling, and first-time-right practices.
- Analyze quality performance data and report recurring defects, process gaps, and improvement actions to the Production Manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Support supplier quality feedback, incoming part quarantine, concession control, and coordination of quality-related actions with warehouse, procurement, maintenance, and after-sales teams.
Leadership
- Ability to lead production teams toward consistent adherence to quality standards and daily quality objectives.
- Ability to coach teams on defect prevention, root-cause thinking, problem solving, process discipline, and ownership of quality at source and build a quality-first culture.
Key Internal & External Relationships
- Collaborate with production supervisor, and operators to ensure CKD assembly is completed to approved quality and safety standards.
- Work closely with production team to manage inspection plans, defect reporting, product testing, and release decisions.
- Coordinate with warehouse and procurement teams on incoming part quality, damaged parts, shortages, quarantine, supplier feedback, and traceability.
- Engage maintenance, engineering, and after-sales teams to resolve equipment, process, warranty, and customer-related quality concerns.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Minimum of a diploma/degree in Quality Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3-5 experience in quality control or quality assurance within a manufacturing or assembly environment, preferably in home appliances, with at least one year in a supervisory role.
Key Skills and Competences
- Fluency in English is required for reporting, documentation, training, and cross-functional communication. Ability to communicate clearly in Kiswahili is an added advantage for shop-floor coordination.
- Strong knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices in manufacturing or assembly operations.
- Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, bills of materials, inspection standards, work instructions, and product test requirements.
- Knowledge of CKD assembly processes, defect prevention, incoming inspection, in-process inspection, final inspection, rework control, and product release procedures.
- Working knowledge of 6S, ISO 9001 principles, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, basic statistical quality tools.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean concepts and A3 problem solving methods.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and quality data analysis.
- Understanding of gas/electrical appliance safety expectations, functional testing, visual quality standards, packaging requirements, and customer complaint handling is an added advantage.
- High attention to detail and commitment to product safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
