About Mizizi Elimu Afrika

Mizizi Elimu Afrika (Mizizi) is an African-led organisation working to ensure all children and youth have the foundations they need to learn, relate and thrive. Mizizi’s work focuses on what matters most when foundations are formed; literacy, numeracy, life skills and values while strengthening the conditions that shape how learning is defined, supported, assessed, and resourced at scale. Mizizi works in collaboration with those closest to children and youth to shift mindsets, improve learning experiences, strengthen relationships, use evidence, and influence policy and resourcing so that those furthest behind are better served.

Job Purpose

Mizizi Elimu Afrika works closely with the Ministry of Education to implement reforms in foundational learning. As part of our system reform agenda, we are seeking to recruit 3 coordinators responsible for regional level coordination and implementation of a prospective initiative, Numeracy at Scale, which will be implemented across 8 counties, 300 schools and seeking to improve numeracy competencies of 90,000 learners by August 2029. The coordinators will be responsible for overall coordination of workplans in the respective counties, promoting regional engagement, school level implementation and field monitoring.

The purpose of this role is to coordinate and support the implementation of the Numeracy initiative within the assigned region by strengthening county-level coordination, partner engagement, implementation quality, activity monitoring, and stakeholder collaboration. The Regional Coordinator serves as the program's primary field representative, ensuring timely delivery of program activities, effective coordination with National and County Government offices in the assigned regions. S/he will be responsible for coordinating the implementing partners, responsive field support, and continuous feedback that informs program learning and adaptive management.

Key Responsibilities

A. Program Coordination & Implementation

  • Coordinate the planning, scheduling, and implementation of program activities across the assigned counties.
  • Support timely delivery of program workplans, milestones, and contractual deliverables in accordance with approved budgets, quality standards, and safeguarding requirements..
  • Monitor implementation progress and proactively address operational bottlenecks and/or escalate implementation risks where necessary.
  • Provide technical and operational support to field teams during program implementation.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for trainings, meetings, workshops, monitoring visits, and field events, including submission of procurement plans, attendance records post events an any other relevant documentation as may be required.
  • Coordinate quarterly engagement of the regional/county-based project steering committees, oversighting implementation at the County level.

B. Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with relevant offices, both national Government and County Government representatives, education departments, civil society organizations and other relevant government institutions.
  • Coordinate program engagement with education officers at County, Sub-County Education Offices, Teacher Training Colleges, Curriculum Support Officers, and school leadership.
  • Represent the program in county-level technical working groups, planning meetings, and education sector forums as delegated.
  • Support the development and implementation of county level engagement plans and partnership strategies.
  • Facilitate effective communication between Mizizi Elimu Afrika, county stakeholders, and program partners.
  • Promote inclusive participation, gender responsiveness, and child safeguarding throughout program implementation.

C. Program Monitoring, Quality Assurance & Reporting

  • Conduct regular field visits to support and monitor implementation quality, participation, safeguarding compliance, and adherence to program standards.
  • Verify activity outputs and maintain accurate implementation records.
  • Prepare field monitoring reports highlighting achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and recommended actions.
  • Support routine collection of program evidence, success stories, photographs, and implementation documentation.
  • Track implementation indicators and contribute to program performance reporting.
  • Promote visibility of the initiative through media engagement (print, non-print media), publication of articles or stories of change and presentation of impact during strategic education fora at regional and county levels.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative implementation data for program reporting.
  • Provide regular field intelligence to support adaptive program management.
  • Document lessons learned, innovations, and emerging good practices from implementation.
  • Contribute to program learning reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date documentation and filing of program documents.

D. Risk Management, Compliance & Safeguarding

  • Identify implementation risks and escalate issues requiring management attention.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements, safeguarding standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Promote accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of program resources.
  • Support incident reporting and follow-up in accordance with organisational procedures.

  • Regional implementation workplans coordinated and programme activities delivered on time and to quality standards.
  • Strong and productive relationships maintained with Education offices at the regional, county and sub county levels, education stakeholders, and implementing partners.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Project Management.
  • 4–6 years of relevant experience coordinating education, development, or donor-funded programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with national, County Governments, education stakeholders, NGOs, or development partners.
  • Experience in programme planning, field implementation, monitoring, reporting, and coordination across multiple locations.
  • Strong understanding of Kenya's devolved governance system and the education sector; experience in foundational learning or teacher development is an added advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned region.

Technical Competencies
