Responsibilities:

  • Lead legal negotiations with private investors and DFIs (including IFC and World Bank)
  • Support launch of Burundi’s first private electricity distribution utility, ensuring alignment with global best practices
  • Oversee legal frameworks for HR, business integrity, and employment matters
  • Advise on government and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Manage local legal, tax, and advisory relationships and oversee external counsel
  • Lead the firm’s regulatory and funder compliance efforts
  • Mitigate legal, commercial, and reputational risks in procurement
  • Negotiate and oversee construction and infrastructure contracts
  • Handle day-to-day legal matters: contracts, real estate, imports, tax, insurance, and employee benefits

Qualifications:

  • Licensed attorney (U.S., U.K., France, Burundi) with 10+ years of experience
  • Direct exposure to IFC and World Bank processes
  • Strong project finance background in energy or infrastructure
  • Prior in-house legal experience in Africa, preferably with a multinational
  • Knowledge of civil and common law systems
  • Skilled in working with cross-functional teams (engineering, finance, E&S)
  • Full professional fluency in English and French
