Background

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) was established by the Government of Kenya on the 14th of January 2013 under an Act of Parliament-Act No.4 of 2013, to provide research based curricula and curriculum support materials responsive to the needs of the society.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and advisory support to Management on research, consultancy, innovation, quality assurance and knowledge management in alignment with the Institute’s mandate and national priorities.
• Lead the development, implementation, review and institutionalisation of policies, strategies, standards, procedures and systems governing research, consultancy, innovation, quality assurance and knowledge management.
• Provide strategic oversight and coordination of curriculum and corporate research programmes to generate evidence and knowledge for curriculum development and review, institutional policy formulation, strategic planning and informed decision- making.
• Initiate, commission and facilitate high-quality research, innovation and knowledge- generation initiatives, and promote the application and dissemination of research findings to enhance the Institute’s products, services and institutional performance.
• Provide strategic leadership in consultancy services and facilitate partnerships, collaborations and professional networks with universities, research institutions, development partners, government agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen research, innovation, capacity building, advocacy and knowledge exchange.
• Oversee the development and operationalisation of integrated research, information and knowledge management systems to facilitate generation, documentation, preservation, sharing, accessibility and utilisation of institutional knowledge and research outputs.
• Lead the organisation of symposia, conferences, workshops and other knowledge- sharing platforms for dissemination of empirical evidence, innovations, best practices and emerging trends in curriculum and education.
• Provide strategic oversight of the publication and dissemination of research and knowledge products through appropriate academic, professional and digital platforms to enhance the Institute’s visibility, influence and contribution to the education sector.
• Advise Management on quality assurance of the Institute’s products, services, systems and processes, and coordinate the development and implementation of quality standards, assurance mechanisms and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide strategic oversight of risk management and internal controls within the Directorate, particularly risks affecting research, consultancy, curriculum development, quality assurance and knowledge management, and ensure implementation of appropriate mitigation measures.
• Oversee the efficient and prudent utilisation of Directorate resources, performance management, staff development and capacity building through appropriate training, coaching and mentorship.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of research, consultancy, innovation and quality assurance programmes and advise Management on strategic interventions for continuous improvement.
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer in furtherance of the Institute’s mandate.

Qualifications and Experience

• Cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years’ three of which should have been in the grade of Deputy Director, Research, Quality Assurance and Consultancy KICD Grade 4 or in a comparable position;
• Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Education, Economics, Public Policy, Quality Assurance, Business Management, Statistics or any other relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
• Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Education, Economics, Research Methodology, Public Policy, Quality Assurance, Business Management, Statistics or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution;
• Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution;
• Registered member of relevant professional body and in good standing;
• Demonstrated managerial, administrative, and professional competence in work performance and results; and
• Proficiency in computer applications.
