NHC Job Grade: 6

Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail: -

  • Initiating formulation, implementation, monitoring and review of procedures and standards for undertaking engineering design and implementation of work;
  • Participating in feasibility study and planning for housing and infrastructure projects;
  • Preparing engineering designs, specifications and drawings;
  • Seeking and obtaining County and statutory approvals for engineering designs and drawings;
  • Preparing tender and contract documentation for engineering aspects;
  • Liaising with Architects in preparation of layout plans
  • Participating in evaluation of contractual claims;
  • Liaising with necessary agencies/authorities for inspections and approvals engineering aspects;
  • Undertaking monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure projects;
  • Supervising construction of housing and infrastructure projects to ensure quality and specification with respect to engineering aspects;
  • Undertaking stakeholder engagement for infrastructure projects and matters;
  • Mapping out and initiating collaboration with project enablers such as utility and service providers;
  • Carrying out Appraisal and Certification of completed engineering works and issue necessary certificates;
  • Preparing documents required to seek and obtain certificate of occupation;
  • Keeping custody of all project designs, drawings and standard operation manuals;
  • Participating in research on housing and infrastructure designs, engineering technology and materials;
  • Ensuring proper custody of all project designs, drawings and standard operation manuals;

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a person must have: -

  • Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Engineer I or in a comparable position;
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Graduate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (I.E.K) or any other recognized professional body in good standing;
  • Registered by the Engineers Board of Kenya (E.B.K) as Graduate Engineer;
  • Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (I.E.K) or any other recognized professional body in good standing and where applicable;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
