A storekeeper manages inventory, organizes stock, and handles logistics like receiving and dispatching goods.

Inventory and stock management: Receive, inspect, and record incoming stock, maintain accurate inventory levels, and ensure stock is organized, labeled, and stored properly. Stock control: Implement stock rotation (like the first-in, first-out method), dispose of expired or surplus goods, and place purchase requisitions when stock is low. Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of all transactions, including deliveries, returns, and sales. Conduct regular stock audits and reconcile discrepancies. Logistics and dispatch: Track and manage dispatched orders, coordinate with other departments, and handle the movement of equipment and materials. Safety and maintenance: Ensure the store or warehouse is clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety regulations. Supervision and coordination: Manage and direct other staff members, such as stock clerks, and coordinate with suppliers and vendors.

Technical skills: Inventory management, data entry, and proficiency with inventory software or systems are crucial. Organizational skills: Must be able to organize, maintain records, and manage time effectively to keep the store running smoothly. Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and customers. Analytical skills: Must have a keen attention to detail to spot discrepancies in inventory or transactions and the ability to perform accurate mathematical computations. Problem-solving skills: Ability to identify issues, such as damaged stock or supply shortages, and find solutions. Physical fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting and carrying supplies.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is often the minimum requirement. Experience: Previous experience in storekeeping, inventory control, or recordkeeping is often preferred, with 2+ years being a common benchmark. Certifications: A valid driver's license and the ability to acquire or maintain a forklift certificate may be required. Knowledge: Familiarity with stockroom or warehouse best practices is essential.
