Position Summary

The Supervisor – Landscaping & Forestry is responsible for overseeing daily landscaping, grounds maintenance, and tree care operations. This role ensures all outdoor areas are maintained to high safety, environmental, and aesthetic standards. The supervisor will lead a team of landscapers, gardeners, and forestry technicians, coordinate work schedules, manage resources, and enforce compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily landscaping and forestry activities.
  • Ensure efficient maintenance of lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs, and natural areas.
  • Oversee pruning, felling, planting, irrigation management, and pest & disease control.
  • Conduct site inspections to maintain quality and identify improvement needs.

2. Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and motivate grounds and forestry teams.
  • Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide on-the-job training.
  • Enforce safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes.

3. Equipment & Resource Management

  • Ensure proper operation, servicing, and maintenance of landscaping and forestry equipment (e.g., chainsaws, brush cutters, mowers, irrigation systems).
  • Manage inventory of supplies, including seedlings, fertilizers, chemicals, and tools.
  • Report equipment defects and coordinate repairs.

4. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure all activities comply with environmental regulations, forestry laws, and institutional policies.
  • Promote safe working practices and lead regular safety briefings.
  • Monitor pesticide and chemical usage according to regulatory guidelines.

5. Planning & Reporting

  • Prepare weekly and monthly work plans and progress reports.
  • Assist in budgeting for landscaping and forestry projects.
  • Collaborate with management on improvement initiatives and sustainability programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Landscaping, Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Management, or related field.
  • Certification in agriculture, horticulture, or landscaping (an added advantage).

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in landscaping or forestry operations.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or team-lead position.
  • Experience operating landscaping and forestry machinery.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of horticulture, tree biology, and sustainable land management.
  • Ability to read landscaping plans and implement site designs.
  • Proficiency in record keeping, reporting, and scheduling.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
