Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified and highly motivated Theatre Nurse on locum basis to join our hospital team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures while ensuring adherence to clinical standards, infection prevention protocols, and patient safety guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating theatre and ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and sterile before procedures.
  • Assist surgeons and the surgical team during operations by anticipating procedural needs and maintaining sterile technique.
  • Conduct pre-operative patient assessments and verify patient identity, procedure, and consent documentation.
  • Monitor patients’ condition during surgery and provide immediate nursing interventions where necessary.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control standards within the theatre environment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures, equipment used, and patient records.
  • Participate in post-operative care and handover of patients to recovery or ward staff.
  • Manage theatre inventory including surgical instruments, consumables, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper handling, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Specialized training or certification in Perioperative/Theatre Nursing will be an added advantage.
  • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an operating theatre setting.
