JOB DETAILS:

Main Responsibilities
• Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the library’s short and long-term plans, programmes, and services in support of the University mission and strategic goals
• Monitor user needs and Library responses and prepare reports thereof for Senate’s Library committee and other committees he/she will be a member
• Ensure development ofhuman resources in library services through staff performance appraisal, assist in staff recruitment and selection, mentor staff as well as recommend promotion and training of library staff
• Contribute to the development of library specifically through strategic planning
• Review, update, and implement relevant library policies in consultation with the DVC Academic Affairs and Research and regularly up-date the University on any new acquisitions
• Prepare the library budget in consultation with the Schools, DVC Academic and advises on library purchases
• Perform market surveys and liaise with various Faculties to facilitate purchase of relevant library materials
• Represent and serve as an advocate for the Library in the Academic Boards, Deans Committee and Senate – and other University Administrative structures where he/she will be a member
• Lead in hardcopy, digital and electronic collection acquisition, access and development
• Lecture Information Management related courses such as Information Literacy, Communication Skills, Research Skills and other information science related courses
• Work closely with schools and departmental heads to prioritize and focus future library developments
• Deliver on any other responsibility/s as assigned by management from time to time

Additional Key competencies
• Excellent knowledge of library science and media technology
• Excellent understanding of the work of academic libraries
• Ability to instruct and manage student and staff behavior
• Sound knowledge of library management systems and a range of library procedures
• Self-motivated team player with strong organizational, communication and inter-personal skills
