The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) was established in 1958 as a non-governmental organization (NGO). The overall objective of the organization is to improve the Quality of life of Persons with Disabilities through promoting Rehabilitation and Inclusion.
- We're looking for a highly motivated individual to support the "Youth Internship" under APDK JUMUISHA(inclusion) project. This vital initiative is a partnership by APDK and National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCWD) funded by CBM. It aims to enhance the inclusion of youth with disabilities in Kenya's evolving labor market, in Isiolo and Kakamega.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management Support: Assist in developing work plans, coordinating activities, and ensuring timely execution of project goals, particularly targeted mobilization and job placement in remote areas.
- Capacity Building: Facilitate sensitization and capacity development for institutions on inclusion of persons with disabilities, youths with disability internship strategies, including accessibility screenings and audits.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key point of contact for partners, engage stakeholders in the disability space, mobilize companies for participation, and facilitate workshops on disability inclusion.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Support data collection and analysis, contribute to progress reports, and document project lessons learned.
- Beneficiary Support: Help develop recruitment criteria, ensure competitive selection of beneficiaries, and support trained individuals in securing employment opportunities, especially in renewable energy and e-mobility.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Disability Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in project coordination or support roles, preferably within the NGO sector in Kenya.
- Proven experience working on projects related to disability inclusion, job readiness, skilling including internship and apprenticeship placement and support, gender equality, youth capacity enhancement geared to economic empowerment.
- Familiarity with the Kenyan context regarding disability issues and employment challenges
- Experience in coordinating training programs and data collection for M&E.
