Counselors need strong interpersonal skills like active listening, empathy, and a non-judgmental attitude, along with professional competencies such as assessment, treatment planning, and record-keeping. 

Direct client services: Conducting individual and group counseling sessions and facilitating workshops to teach life skills. Assessment and planning: Assessing client needs, developing and implementing customized therapeutic treatment plans, and setting goals with clients. Documentation: Maintaining accurate and confidential client records. Crisis intervention: Providing support and intervention during crises and helping clients develop coping mechanisms. Collaboration: Working with other healthcare professionals and external resources to coordinate care and provide referrals. Education: Educating clients about mental health, wellness, and problem-solving techniques. Progress monitoring: Evaluating client progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed.

Communication and interpersonal: Active listening, empathy, excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse clients. Personal and emotional: A non-judgmental attitude, patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Professional and cognitive: Strong observational and analytical skills, the ability to interpret information, and effective organizational and time management skills. Ethical: Deep respect for client confidentiality and a commitment to maintaining professional boundaries. Technical: Proficiency with computers, including standard software packages for managing records and documentation.
