We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing hotel and restaurant in Lang'ata, Nairobi, for a competent and detail-oriented Accountant with hands-on experience in the hospitality industry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, monitoring costs, overseeing revenue controls, and ensuring compliance with statutory and accounting requirements. The ideal candidate must understand the unique financial operations of hotels and restaurants, including cash controls, inventory management, food and beverage costing, and daily revenue reconciliation.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and financial transactions.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure proper financial controls.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, supplier accounts, and customer accounts.
  • Prepare budgets and monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Monitor daily sales and revenue collections.
  • Reconcile POS reports, cash receipts, and banking records.
  • Ensure proper handling and accountability of cash and other revenue streams.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in revenue reporting.
  • Monitor food, beverage, and operational inventory.
  • Conduct stock reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Support costing of menu items and monitor profit margins.
  • Work closely with operations to minimize wastage and losses.
  • Prepare and submit statutory deductions and tax returns.
  • Ensure compliance with KRA, NSSF, SHA, and other statutory requirements.
  • Support payroll preparation and reconciliation.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • CPA Part II minimum; CPA Finalist or CPA(K) will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality accounting and cost control.
  • Experience working with POS systems and accounting software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
