To manage financial records, project costing, budgeting, and compliance within the construction environment. The Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost control, and supporting project profitability through effective financial management and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports.
  • Manage general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure proper fund allocation across projects.

Project Accounting and Cost Control

  • Track project costs including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and forecasts.
  • Analyze cost variances and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of costs to specific construction projects.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and report deviations.
  • Support management in financial planning and decision-making.

Compliance and Taxation

  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, tax regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain proper documentation for audit and compliance purposes.

Procurement and Payment Control

  • Verify and process supplier invoices and subcontractor payments.
  • Ensure proper approval processes are followed for expenditures.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.

Risk Management and Internal Controls

  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Ensure adherence to company financial policies and procedures.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams.
  • Provide financial insights to support project execution.
  • Participate in financial and operational meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA (K) / ACCA or equivalent certification
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction or project-based accounting
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports.
