Job Purpose

  • The Accountant will have the responsibility of accurately recording and maintaining all financial records and transactions in the general ledger, ensuring the integrity, reliability, and compliance of AZT’s financial statements in accordance with established accounting standards and statutory regulations. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position plays a critical role in both internal reporting processes and external audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting and finance tasks to ensure all transactions are processed and recorded in accordance with the finance policy and procedures within prescribed timelines.
  • Lead the implementation and maintain internal controls and an effective accounting system and policies in line with international standards.
  • Review payment vouchers to ensure timeliness, completeness, and accuracy of supporting information in the processing of payments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, including Financial Management Report, Cash flow forecast, Aged Accounts Receivable and produce monthly reports as per the set deadline. Maintenance of the General Ledger to ensure that it accurately reflects business operations.
  • Through preparation/review of balance sheet/control accounts reconciliations, ensure the balances reported in the financial statements are complete and accurate. Review of the monthly financial closing file to ensure errors (if any) are corrected immediately.
  • Monitor and analyse department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Review and analyse the consolidated information produced to ensure accuracy and consistency with the underlying information and to be able to provide timely commentaries.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyse potential operational improvement. Participate in identifying financial risks, and threats pertaining to financial processes and systems of the organization.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions and responds to inquiries regarding financial reports.
  • Review financial reconciliations including bank, petty cash, accruals, prepayment, group and external facilities.
  • Review and confirm payables ensuring payment to suppliers are accurate and properly supported with duly approved source documents.

  • Adherence to IAS & IFRS.
  • Effective financial controls – strict adherence to internal controls that safeguard the Group's assets.

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance management, accounting, or related subjects.
  • Professional qualification; CPA/ACCA. Member of a professional finance body.

Experience, Knowledge, and Competences

  •  A minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting with at least 2 years at a supervisory level
  • Good knowledge of accounting systems and exposure to financial reporting standards likeIFRS, IAS and financial regulatory laws
  • Advanced planning and coordination skills
  • Demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality when dealing with internal and external customers
  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills, problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skills, ability to monitor and explain trends and variances
  • Good people management, interpersonal and communication skills
  • A forward planner with a clear focus, with the ability to manage time effectively and meet strict deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and strong numeracy skills
  • Business acumen with the ability to make sound decisions for the business
  • Have good problem analysis and reporting skills
  • Process-oriented and can facilitate the use of systems
