About the Role

Our client is a growing enterprise operating within the FMCG and distribution sector, with a strong presence in beverages distribution and retail operations. Our client is seeking to recruit a highly analytical and results-driven Accountant to oversee financial management, inventory control, and compliance functions. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, optimizing operational efficiency, safeguarding company assets, and supporting strategic decision making.

Role Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for ensuring sound financial management, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance across the business. The role supports accurate financial reporting, inventory integrity, cost control, and adherence to statutory requirements, while driving process improvements and supporting revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Accounting

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements.
  • Develop annual budgets and periodic forecasts, including variance analysis and performance tracking.
  • Ensure timely collection of receivables and effective credit control.
  • Oversee proper authorization and processing of payments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with accounting standards.
  • Implement and monitor internal financial controls to mitigate risk, prevent fraud, and safeguard assets.

2. Inventory & Store Management

  • Ensure accurate stock recording and reconciliation between physical inventory and system records.
  • Monitor stock movement, turnover levels, and minimize slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
  • Oversee goods receipt, dispatch processes, and proper documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve stock variances and discrepancies in a timely manner.

3. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with tax obligations including VAT, Excise Duty, PAYE, Withholding Tax, etc.
  • Prepare and file statutory returns accurately and within required timelines.
  • Maintain valid business licenses and regulatory permits.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant industry regulations, including beverages distribution laws.

4. Operations & Cost Management

  • Oversee logistics, transport, and distribution efficiency to support business operations.
  • Monitor and control operating expenses in line with budgets.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Ensure optimal utilization and management of company assets.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in FMCG, retail, or distribution environment.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management systems and accounting software.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, compliance, and operational support.

  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of inventory and cost management.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
