Job Title: Accounts Assistant Department: Finance Reports To: Senior Accountant / Operations Manager Location: Nakuru County,

Job Summary:

The Accounts Assistant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, assisting with budget management, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company policies. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles. The Accounts Assistant will play a key role in supporting the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and subsidiary accounts.
Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring timely payments and collections.
Manage general ledger accounts, including preparing and posting journal entries, ensuring proper coding and classification.
Conduct regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of cash balances.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements).
Assist in the preparation of management reports, providing insights into financial performance.
Support the Finance Manager in budget preparation and monitoring, analyzing variances and advising on corrective actions.
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
Taxation & Compliance:
Assist with the preparation for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Stay updated with changes in accounting standards (e.g., IFRS) and tax laws relevant to Kenya.
Ensure adherence to company financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ensure compliance tax regulations related to payroll.

Asset Management:
Maintain the fixed asset register, including recording acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
Conduct periodic physical verification of assets.

Ad-hoc Duties:
Respond to financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
Participate in process improvement initiatives within the finance department.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or senior management.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:
Bachelor's degree/ Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Professional Certification e.g CPA is desirable

Experience:
2-3 years of progressive experience in an accounting role, preferably within the credit industry.
Proven experience with accounting software.
Demonstrable experience in preparing financial statements and reports.
Solid understanding of Kenyan tax laws and IFRS/GAAP

Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for effective interaction with colleagues and external parties.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of internal control principles.

Working Conditions:

Primarily office-based
May require occasional extended hours during month-end, quarter-end, or year-end closing periods.
