Adjunct Faculty – Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry

Job Summary

The successful candidate will report to the Dean, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The incumbent will be expected to teach Medicinal Chemistry and related subjects, including Drug Design, Structure-Activity Relationships, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, and Computational Drug Discovery.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Teach and assess Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry courses in the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme.
  • Deliver laboratory and practical sessions in synthetic medicinal chemistry, drug design, and analytical characterization.
  • Develop and update course materials, laboratory manuals, and digital learning resources.
  • Participate in curriculum development, academic program review, and accreditation processes.
  • Mentor students in academic, professional, and research development.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • A B.Pharmacy, BSc in Pharmacy, or related discipline from a recognized/accredited institution.
  • A M.Pharmacy /Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field from a recognized/accredited university.
  • A PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline will be a distinct advantage.
  • At least three (3) years of university teaching experience in Medicinal Chemistry or related areas.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable (e.g., Pharmacy and Poisons Board).

Personal Attributes & Competencies

  • Strong background in pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry and drug design principles.
  • Practical experience in synthetic organic chemistry and compound characterization.
  • Proficiency in modern analytical and spectroscopic techniques (HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, IR).
  • Familiarity with computational chemistry or molecular modeling tools is desirable.
  • Ability to integrate technology-enhanced learning methods.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong mentorship, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated research and grant-writing capability.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
