The overall objective of UNEP's Industry and Economy Division is to support decision makers in government and engage with industry and the finance sector to use strong scientific evidence to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production including circular economy, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making industry and environment policies mutually supportive.

The Division promotes the development and adoption of policies, technologies, economic instruments, investment decisions, business practices and other efforts which enables to address the environmental challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation, and pollution while advancing economic and social objectives.

This position is located at the Nairobi duty station in UNEP's Industry and Economy Division under the Materials and Systems Innovation Unit.

The Materials and Systems Innovation Unit leads the formulation and implementation of UNEP's work programme with the aim of bringing together data, science, and knowledge networks in the area of sustainable materials management, circular economy and life cycle thinking to support governments and engage industry and finance actors to develop relevant policy and practices.

Responsibilities or duties

The incumbent will provide high-quality administrative, financial, and legal support to ensure the compliant, efficient, and timely implementation of project activities.

The role aims to safeguard institutional integrity by aligning all contracts, budgets, travel logistics, and documentation with UN rules and regulations while optimizing operational support for project partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required

A first-level university degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field is desirable

Experience needed

Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in:

working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is required

Administration of financial documents and contracts

Proven experience in organizing large inter-governmental meetings is required

Experience in finance is considered an asset

Prior experience working with the United Nations or international organizations is desirable

Required Skill:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
