Advocacy & Communications Intern

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Advocacy Support

  • Assist in researching policy issues, advocacy trends, and stakeholder positions.
  • Contribute to the development of advocacy materials such as briefs, fact sheets, and position papers.
  • Support coordination of campaigns, events, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Track and document advocacy activities and outcomes.

Content Development

  • Draft and edit communication materials including blog posts, newsletters, press releases, and social media content.
  • Support storytelling by collecting beneficiary stories, case studies, and impact narratives.
  • Ensure content aligns with organizational messaging and branding guidelines.

Digital Communications

  • Support management and updating of social media platforms with engaging and timely content.
  • Monitor digital engagement metrics and suggest improvements to increase reach and impact.

Campaign and Event Support

  • Provide logistical and communications support for advocacy campaigns, events, and public engagements.
  • Assist in organizing webinars, workshops, and awareness drives.
  • Document events through photography, notes, and post-event reports.

Research and Analysis

  • Conduct background research to inform advocacy strategies and communication outputs.
  • Analyse audience insights and communication trends to improve messaging.
  • Support preparation of reports, presentations, and knowledge products.

Administrative and Coordination Support

  • Assist in coordinating internal communication activities across teams.
  • Maintain organized records of communication materials and advocacy resources.
  • Provide general administrative support to the advocacy and communications unit.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Governance, International development, Community development or related field of study.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications in a humanitarian or NGO context
  • Strong interest in advocacy and social justice issues
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Strong writing, photography and editing skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
