Position Title : Agronomist

We are actively recruiting an Agronomist to support our client, a leading international development partner implementing a donor-funded programme, for an upcoming green project based in Baringo County. The role will support community-based, climate-smart, and regenerative agriculture interventions aimed at sustainable land and natural resource management.

Reporting to: Project Manager

Location: Baringo County

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership on sustainable agriculture, agroecology, and climate-smart farming practices
  • Support community mobilisation, awareness raising, and consensus-building with farmers and local stakeholders
  • Design and facilitate training sessions for farmers and county staff, including workshops and field demonstrations
  • Support rangeland management, rotational grazing systems, tree planting, nursery establishment, and management activities
  • Provide technical guidance on soil and water conservation and erosion control practices
  • Support implementation of agroforestry, horticulture, coffee, and forestry-related initiatives
  • Contribute to value chain development for agricultural and non-timber forest products and nature-based supply chains
  • Support monitoring of agricultural interventions and contribute to high-quality technical and narrative reports
  • Collaborate with contractors and project teams to ensure alignment between technical design and field implementation
  • Contribute to regenerative agriculture and carbon-related project components, where applicable

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in English and Swahili
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Food Systems, Agricultural Economics, Forestry, Agroforestry, or a related field
  • Strong background in community development and participatory approaches
  • Proven facilitation and training skills for farmers and county-level staff
  • Demonstrated expertise in rangeland management, rotational grazing, nursery establishment, soil and water conservation
  • Strong communication and technical reporting skills
  • Proven experience in agroecology and climate-smart agricultural practices
  • Experience in regenerative agriculture
  • Knowledge and experience in carbon trade or carbon-related agricultural projects
  • Experience in value chain development for agricultural or non-timber forest products
  • A Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience working on sustainable agriculture projects (soil, water, and germplasm management).
