Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is a semi autonomous government agency of the Ministry of Education, Kenya. It was established through a Legal Notice No. 17 of 14th February 1986. Responsibilities

Assess children with special needs and disabilities; Refer children assessed to other service providers; Place children assessed in educational programmes; Provide data on assessment; Train assessment staff in functional assessment; Identify children with special needs and disabilities and recommend for placement in schools and institutions; Create awareness, sensitize and capacity-build teachers, parents and other stakeholders dealing with children with special needs and disabilities Participate community outreach service to awareness on disabilities

Qualifications / Work Experience

Professional Membership to a relevant professional body in good standing Academic Bachelor’s Degree in Education in the area of Special Needs or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution Professional Two (2) years’ experience working in Functional Assessment

• Assess children with special needs and disabilities;
• Refer children assessed to other service providers;
• Place children assessed in educational programmes;
• Provide data on assessment;
• Train assessment staff in functional assessment;
• Identify children with special needs and disabilities and recommend for placement in schools and institutions;
• Create awareness, sensitize and capacity-build teachers, parents and other stakeholders dealing with children with special needs and disabilities
• Participate community outreach service to awareness on disabilities

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education in the area of Special Needs or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution
• Two (2) years’ experience working in Functional Assessment
