Job Role
The Assistant Accountant supports the finance team in managing day-to-day accounting operations within the oil and gas sector. The role involves preparing financial records, reconciling accounts, assisting in audits, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific financial regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of working under strict timelines in a dynamic energy environment.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- Support accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Assist in maintaining proper accounting records and reconciliations.
- Strengthen internal controls and audit readiness.
- Provide timely support in budgeting and cost tracking.
- Enhance efficiency in finance operations within oil and gas projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Record Management
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
- Reconcile bank statements and supplier accounts.
Reporting & Compliance
- Support preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and oil & gas industry regulations.
- Assist in statutory filings and tax compliance.
Audit & Internal Controls
- Provide documentation and support during internal and external audits.
- Monitor adherence to financial policies and procedures.
Budgeting & Cost Tracking
- Assist in preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Track project costs and operational expenses.
Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with procurement, operations, and project teams.
- Support financial analysis for oil and gas projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA/ACCA qualification (at least Part II).
- 2–4 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in oil and gas or energy sector.
- Knowledge of IFRS and industry-specific financial practices.
- Added advantage: ERP systems (SAP, Oracle), taxation in oil and gas.
