Responsibilities or duties

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: -

  • Representing the Commission in courts and tribunals;
  • Providing input in the development and implementation of the divisional targets and work plans;
  • Reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual litigation reports;
  • Preparing advisories on compliance with relevant statutory requirements;
  • Coordinating, preparing and reviewing legal instruments;
  • Advising the Commission on outcome of Court cases and compliance thereof;
  • Ensuring the Commission’s compliance to statutory and contractual obligations;
  • Rendering legal opinions and advisories;
  • Undertaking sensitization on legal issues;
  • Undertaking legal compliance audit; and
  • Supervising and guiding employees for optimum performance.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Served in the grade of Principal Officer-Legal for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • OR
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a comparable position;
  • Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from a recognized institution;
  • Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law;
  • Membership of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
  • Master’s degree from a recognized Institution is an added advantage;
  • Valid Advocates’ Practicing Certificate;
  • Certificate in Senior Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; and
  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

The terms and remuneration benefits for this Grade:

  • Basic Salary Scale: Kshs.137,460 – Kshs.167,098
  • House Allowance: Applicable rates
  • Commuter Allowance: Kshs.12,000
  • Leave Allowance: As provided in TSC Secretariat
  • Annual Leave: 30 working days per calendar year
  • Medical Cover: As provided in the TSC Secretariat Medical Scheme
  • Terms of Service: Five (5) years contract renewable once subject to satisfactory performance.
