- Master of Science Degree in any of the above fields is an added advantage.
- Registration and retention by the Kenya Veterinary Board
- Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognised Institution
- Certificate in Management Course from a recognized institution
- Demonstrate high degree of professional and technical competence and administrative capabilities as reflected in work performance and results.
- Leadership Skills
- Communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Organizational skills
- Negotiation skills
- Ability to build and lead cohesive teams
- Problem-solving skills
- Must meet Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya leadership and integrity
Experience needed
Have served in the grade of Principal Assistant Livestock Health Officer for a minimum period of three (3) years in Job Group N.
Responsibilities or duties
This position is responsible for providing animal disease control and welfare services.
- Supervise Sub-County technical Officers as they implement planned pest control activities;
- Coordinate and promote the development and transfer of appropriate technologies for disease control;
- Plan disease control activities
- Organise animal identification activities
- Manage quarantine stations and sentinels’ herds
- Organise teams for animal disease surveillance and reporting
- Issue livestock movement permits
- Plan farmers field trainings
- Analyse and disseminate animal health information
- Carry out monitoring and evaluation of animal health programs
- Prepare preliminary assessment report for construction of slaughter houses and farm structures and
- Gather data and compile technical reports on animal health and welfare
