Background

Mirema School is a Christian day and boarding institution committed to holistic education and learner welfare. We are seeking a qualified Assistant Head of Department – Boarding (Male) to support the Head of Boarding in managing the daily operations, discipline, and overall well-being of boarders.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, compassion, and the ability to foster a safe, supportive, and structured environment for learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and communicating boarding schedules, rules, and routines.
  • Support the Head of Department in supervising boarding staff and ensuring consistency in boarding practices.
  • Coordinate and implement the boarding calendar in collaboration with other departments.
  • Oversee pupil discipline and ensure adherence to school routines, including wake-up, lights-out, and bedtime.
  • Supervise personal grooming and ensure learners are presentable for school, church, and co-curricular activities.
  • Monitor dorm cleanliness, hygiene, and organization, including regular airing of bedding.
  • Identify and support learners with special needs (e.g., bed-wetting) in a discreet and caring manner.
  • Maintain accurate boarding attendance records and liaise with admissions, head teacher, and accounts on absenteeism.
  • Work with the kitchen team to ensure all boarders receive appropriate meals, including those with special dietary needs.

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma/Certificate in Counselling, Teaching, Nursing, or related field
  • Additional Counselling qualification is required
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in a boarding or student welfare role
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creativity and problem-solving ability
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills
  • Computer literacy for records and reporting
  • Ability to build trust and relate well with young learners
