Duties and responsibilities entail:
- Carrying out systems analysis;
- Developing and documenting programming specifications in liaison with users;
- Customizing and updating application systems;
- Researching on new technologies and innovations;
- Testing developed applications;
- Creating working relationships with the ICT Team, Applications users, Business Champions, Contracted Service Providers and Consultants; and
- Training and supporting users on the various applications.
Database
Duties and responsibilities entail:
- Performing database server administration and associated daily administrative tasks;
- Ensuring performance management, integrity and security of a database is maintained;
- Ensuring availability of existing Oracle/SQL Server and other operational databases;
- Monitoring, tuning, changing control, scheduling tasks, backing up jobs, recovery processes, alerts, and database storage needs for operational databases;
- Performing fault diagnosis, troubleshoot and correct problems that occur within operational databases;
- Documenting, developing, testing and implementing updates to operational databases;
- Designing and implementing replication solutions for operational databases;
- Designing, evaluating, and testing new database applications;
- Performing solution testing to ensure that databases integrate smoothly into the current operational environment;
- Recommending system enhancements to maximize application efficiency.
- Researching on current technology trends for innovations;
- Working with appropriate departmental resources to ensure that all database solutions are integrated into the institution’s database standards and that all databases are tested to ensure complete compatibility with the institution’s hardware, software, and peripherals; and
- Performing second level user support Respond to after-hours database problems.
Infrastructure & Support
Duties and responsibilities entail:
- Training new and current employees on computer software and ICT systems;
- Creating materials and presentations for trainings and reports;
- Assessing user capacity and suggest trainings and areas in need of improvement;
- Performing routine system administrative tasks;
- Creating and maintaining inventory, which may include hardware, software and various items such as laser printer cartridges and peripheral equipment;
- Assisting with preparation of operating budgets based on estimated and actual expenditures for ICT;
- Setting-up computer prior to new staff start date and any related moves;
- Handling the relocation of computer equipment as a result of office or personnel changes;
- Setting up new user accounts and email accounts;
- Troubleshooting system issues such as repairing user accounts and email accounts;
- Resetting passwords; and
- Conducting preventive maintenance on ICT equipment.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Person Specification
For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:
- A Bachelor Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Information Technology, Computer Science, Business IT, Software Engineering, ICT Project Management, Computer Engineering, or any other equivalent qualification from an accredited and recognized university.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in Programming, Database querying and Analytical skills;
- Member of Computer Society of Kenya or an equivalent Body;
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) on Leadership and Integrity upon successful appointment.
