Background

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and coordination of fellowship programs, leadership development initiatives, research training programs, and innovation ecosystem activities.
  • Contribute to program activities related to global health, public health research, implementation science, women's health, adolescent health, and other related thematic areas.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support the delivery of conferences, workshops, immersion programs, and high-level stakeholder meetings.
  • Assist in grant management processes, proposal development, donor engagement, and preparation of donor reports.
  • Foster effective collaboration and communication with international partners and stakeholders across diverse cultural and geographical settings.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, to support program operations and communication.
  • Prepare high-quality presentations, technical reports, briefing materials, meeting minutes, and other program documentation.
  • Manage and utilize project management and collaboration platforms to support program planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance productivity, content development, research support, communications, and workflow optimization.
  • Maintain program trackers, databases, records, and other data management systems to ensure accurate and timely information management.
  • Coordinate and support virtual meetings, webinars, and online learning activities using relevant digital platforms.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor (MBChB) preferred. Candidates with a Master's degree or currently in training in Public Health, Global Health, Health Systems, Epidemiology, Clinical Research, Health Management, or a related field will have an added advantage. Mandatory
  • Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body is desirable. Mandatory
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in health, public health, research, clinical programs, project management, or study coordination roles. Mandatory
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-stakeholder programs, research projects, fellowships, training programs, or capacity-strengthening initiatives. Mandatory
  • Experience supporting program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. Mandatory
  • Previous experience working with academic institutions, research organizations, government agencies, donors, or international partners is highly desirable. Mandatory
  • Experience working in multicultural, multidisciplinary, and geographically dispersed teams. Mandatory
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Desirable
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills. Desirable
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. Desirable
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Desirable
