Responsibilities or duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide academic leadership and mentorship to junior faculty members;
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students;
  • Develop and review academic programmes;
  • Supervise postgraduate research projects and theses;
  • Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Prepare, moderate, and mark examinations;
  • Participate in strategic planning and departmental development;
  • Assist in quality assurance and accreditation processes;
  • Mentor junior faculty and students in research and professional development;
  • Participate in resource mobilization and collaborative research initiatives;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Applicants must possess:

  • An earned PhD in the relevant field from a recognized university:
    • PhD in Old Testament Studies;
    • PhD in Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, or related field;
    • PhD in Religious Studies or related discipline.
  • A Master’s degree with a minimum average score of B+ or equivalent in the relevant field;
  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division or a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a recognized university;
  • KCSE mean grade of C+ or equivalent qualification;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, E-Learning platforms, Internet applications, and relevant statistical software.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of nine (9) years of university teaching and research experience, including at least three (3) years at the rank of Senior Lecturer or equivalent;
  • Significant record of scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals;
  • Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students;
  • Demonstrated academic leadership and contribution to curriculum development;
  • Evidence of participation in funded research projects, consultancies, or grant-supported academic initiatives will be an added advantage;
  • Meets the University requirements for appointment and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor;
  • Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable;
  • Ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church;
  • Active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing;
  • Demonstrated commitment to Adventist philosophy of education and values;
  • Ability to integrate faith and learning in accordance with the philosophy, mission, and values of Seventh-day Adventist higher education;
