Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the Director-General of UNON is the representative of the Secretary-General in Kenya. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordination System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org). These multiple When Actually Employed (WAE) roster positions are located in the Conference and Client Support Section, within the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) and report to the Senior Audio Visual (AV) Technician.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Telecommunications Assistants will be responsible for the following duties:
1. CONFERENCE OPERATIONS:
- Setup, test and operate simultaneous interpretation, public address, recording, hybrid integration, remote simultaneous interpretation, wireless, captioning, webstreaming and video-conferencing equipment as per the defined Standard Operating Procedures and within operational specifications.
- Ensure conference Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are adhered to.
- Assist and Monitor equipment moves, additions, changes, mobilization and demobilization, and ensure guidelines, rules and procedures and safety standards are met.
- Guide, assist and monitor external contractors in the installation, integration and operation of third-party equipment.
- Liaise with other stakeholders including ICTS Infrastructure Management Section, Division of Conference Services, Facilities Management and UN Security among others to ensure smooth conference operations.
- Collect client feedback in a timely manner.
2. GENERAL DUTIES:
- Assist with periodic Preventive Maintenance activities.
- Assist with store management and asset lifecycle activities including physical verification checks.
- Assist with post-production activities including media asset management, extraction, video-editing, tagging, archiving and distribution.
- Assist with Conference Control Room operations.
- Assist with cost estimates, expenditure reports and record-keeping.
- Assist with workflow analyses, project support and continuous service improvement activities.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations, dashboards and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
3. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental courses/technical certificates in the Audio/Visual, Information Technology and/or Project Management fields such as CTS, Dante, Q-Sys, ST2110, ITIL v4 Foundation, CCNA, Prince2, etc. are required.
Job - Specific Qualification
Excellent technical, troubleshooting and computer skills (MS Office 365, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Teams) are required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the audio/visual, information technology and/or engineering/electronic fields is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced by two (2) years for candidates with a first-level University degree. Experience in supporting meetings and conferences in large, international, multilingual organizations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. The table below shows the minimum required level for each skill in these languages, according to the UN Language Framework Assessment
