JOB SUMMARY
On behalf of our client, a leading player in the distribution and service of industrial refrigeration solutions, including refrigeration compressors, we are seeking a results-driven Business Development Officer.The successful candidate will be responsible for building a robust pipeline of customers across various sectors, including cold chain and food processing units (frozen foods, dairy, beverage, and brewing), ice production, pharmaceuticals, and horticulture.The ideal candidate will spearhead the growth of the industrial refrigeration portfolio and take responsibility for identifying requirements for high-end refrigeration compressors, integrated solutions, and after-sales services. This role is a strategic blend of technical sales, territory management, and high-level relationship building, with a core focus on delivering operational efficiency to key industrial players across Kenya.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
2–3 years of proven success in B2B technical or industrial sales.
Existing direct contacts with owners or key decision-makers within the Kenyan industrial sector is highly desirable.
Prior experience selling industrial equipment (Compressors, HVAC/R, Pumps, or Power Engineering products) is a significant advantage.
Required Skills & Attributes
The ability to translate complex engineering specifications into clear business benefits for non-technical clients.
Strong negotiation skills with a focus on value-based selling rather than just price.
High standards of honesty and professional ethics in all business dealings.
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently with a willingness to travel extensively within Nairobi and across the region.
Proficient in MS Office Suite and CRM software.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Identify and engage high-value prospects across diverse sectors:Cold Chain & Food Processing: Frozen foods, meat/seafood, dairy, and large-scale cold storage.Horticulture & Agro-Export: Flowers, fruits, and vegetable value chains.Beverage & Brewing: Industrial cooling for bottling and fermentation.Specialized Sectors: Pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and ice production/distribution.Infrastructure: Large-scale HVAC/R for airports, hospitals, and commercial malls.
2. From lead generation and qualification to conducting technical presentations and product demonstrations.
3. Prepare tailored quotes and proposals, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely payment collection post-installation.
4. Build long-term partnerships with industrial plant owners, consultants, contractors, and technical decision-makers.
5. Act as the primary point of contact for technical clarifications, ensuring customers understand the ROI.
6. Monitor competitor activity and industry trends to refine the company’s competitive positioning.
7. Maintain meticulous records of sales activities and pipeline status via CRM tools.
8. Submit comprehensive weekly and monthly performance reports to management.
9. Collaborate with the technical and service teams to ensure seamless project handovers and high levels of customer retention.
