Business Partner - People and Culture

Job description

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Partner with school leadership teams to align people strategies with business and educational objectives.
  • Provide proactive advice and guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, talent management, and employee relations matters.
  • Support leaders in managing change, improving team effectiveness, and building high-performing cultures.
  • Analyze people data and trends to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement actions.

Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning

  • Support recruitment activities across academic and support functions.
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop effective recruitment plans and sourcing strategies.
  • Ensure fair, inclusive, and compliant recruitment practices.
  • Coordinate onboarding processes to ensure successful integration of new employees.

Employee relations

  • Proactively identify and implement strategies to reduce employee misconduct cases
  • Provide expert guidance on employee relations matters, disciplinary processes, grievances, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure employee relations matters are managed consistently, fairly, and in accordance with Kenyan labour law and organizational policies.

Performance Success and Learning and Development

  • Run the Strategic Workforce Planning process and present findings to the Regional P&C Director.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of performance management processes.
  • Coach managers on performance improvement, feedback, and talent conversations.
  • Identify capability gaps and training needs across schools through the Strategic Workforce Planning process.
  • Support the implementation of leadership, professional development, and employee learning initiatives.

Employee Engagement and Culture

  • Support the design and execution of employee engagement initiatives.
  • Drive employee wellness, retention, recognition, and inclusion programmes.
  • Facilitate communication and change management initiatives.
  • Act as a champion for Makini Schools' values and culture.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan employment legislation and internal policies.
  • Support policy development, implementation, and communication.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR data.
  • Partner with payroll and finance teams to ensure employee information is accurate and up to date.
  • Support audits and compliance reviews as required.
  • Ensure that monthly HR Metrics is presented to the Regional People and Culture Business and shared with the line manager to make data driven decisions about their respective businesses.

HR Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in local People & Culture projects.
  • Contribute to the implementation of HR systems, processes, and digital solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, employee experience, and service delivery.
  • Support the achievement of People & Culture KPIs and strategic objectives.
  • Support any merger and/or acquisitions opportunities through conducting meticulous P&C due diligence.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business Administration, or Organizational Development will be an advantage.
  • Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K) qualification or equivalent professional certification preferred.
