About the Camp
Ol Gaboli is the only Kenyan safari lodge owned by a Maasai women’s community group. Perched on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Laikipia, it is known for its extraordinary wildlife - wild dogs, cheetah and the rare black leopard - as well as its adventurous spirit, the camp offers high-quality safari experiences at an accessible level. With support from a new UK-based team, rising occupancy levels and plans to expand into multiple camps, Ol Gaboli is an exciting place to grow your career in safari hospitality.
The Role
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and guest-focused Camp Manager to oversee daily operations, lead a dedicated team and host guests with warmth and professionalism. This is both a hands-on management role and a unique opportunity to help shape a growing safari business with high degrees of freedom.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day operations across housekeeping, F&B, guiding, logistics and maintenance.
- Host guests, creating a welcoming and memorable atmosphere.
- Manage, train, and motivate a loyal team of 10 staff plus casual workers.
- Oversee finances, budgets and reporting to the ownership team.
- Develop strong community relationships.
- Contribute to marketing efforts through stories, updates and content.
- Drive improvements in processes, standards and guest experience.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in safari hospitality (2–3 years) is an advantage, but far more important are energy, entrepreneurial spirit, practical common sense and the diplomacy needed to work with people from all walks of life.
- Strong leadership and organisational skills, with confidence in guest hosting.
- Practical, resourceful and solutions-oriented in a remote setting.
- Resilient, adaptable and comfortable with autonomy and responsibility.
- Passionate about wildlife, conservation and community.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the energy to grow a young business.
- Bonus skills: guiding, social media, or photography.
This is not a conventional camp manager role. Ol Gaboli is a young business with tight budgets, so the starting salary is lower than industry norms. The real reward lies in:
- A rare level of responsibility and freedom to consistently improve the camp.
- Career progression beyond a standard camp management path.
- Performance-based incentives tied to the camp’s success.
- Long-term partnership opportunities.
