Responsibilities or duties

Your mission at Sistema.bio:

This role is responsible to ensure Sistema.bio’s carbon projects are technically robust, compliant with the latest carbon standards, and grounded in conservative, science-based methodologies supporting the successful certification of projects and the timely issuance of high-integrity carbon credits.

You’ll be in charge of:

  • Ensuring methodological integrity: ensuring all carbon projects follow the latest approved methodologies and apply conservative, science-based emission reduction factors.
  • Supporting certification processes: supporting regional teams in the certification and verification of carbon projects, including leading technical discussions with auditors and carbon standards bodies.
  • Preparing project documentation: developing emission reduction (ER) estimates and preparing project Design Documents (PDDs and MADDs) for certification and authorization processes.
  • Overseeing technical quality: reviewing the technical work produced by external consultants to ensure accuracy, robustness, and full methodological compliance.
  • Conducting technical analysis: analyzing carbon methodologies and emission reduction models, including conducting sensitivity analyses to identify key parameters and risks.
  • Tracking methodological updates: monitoring developments in carbon standards and methodologies and implementing updates to keep projects aligned with evolving requirements.
  • Advising internal stakeholders: communicating methodological updates and their implications for Sistema.bio’s carbon portfolio and operations.
  • Strengthening monitoring systems: supporting baseline and monitoring campaigns by advising on sampling approaches, reviewing dMRV data, and improving internal processes for data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

More about YOU:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental policy/studies, engineering, economics, public policy, or a related field.
  • Experience in carbon markets: 5+ years working on carbon projects under standards such as Gold Standard, VERRA, CDM, or similar mechanisms.
  • Technical expertise: strong knowledge of carbon methodologies, emissions accounting, and relevant scientific literature (e.g. IPCC).
  • Project documentation: experience preparing technical documents such as PDDs, MADDs, and ER sheets.
  • Analytical skills: strong Excel and modelling skills to analyze emission reduction models and project data.
  • Project management: ability to manage complex projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and deliver results under tight timelines.
