Job Summary

The Clinical Officer – Quality Assurance is responsible for overseeing the quality and safety of clinical services, ensuring evidence-based practice, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in patient care. The role conducts clinical audits, reviews treatment protocols, and supports clinical governance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement clinical quality assurance frameworks, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Conduct clinical audits, case reviews, and morbidity/mortality reviews.
  • Monitor adherence to clinical guidelines, treatment protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyze clinical outcomes and quality indicators (e.g., diagnostic accuracy, treatment outcomes, referral timeliness).
  • Investigate clinical incidents, near misses, and complaints; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure compliance with national health policies, ethical standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide clinical leadership and training to clinical staff on quality standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Support infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient safety programs.
  • Participate in clinical governance committees and quality improvement projects.
  • Prepare clinical quality reports and present findings to management.
  • Collaborate with nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, and other departments on quality initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate QA documentation and confidential records.
  • Support accreditation and external inspection processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (or equivalent).
  • Valid registration/license as a Clinical Officer.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience, with at least 1–2 years in quality assurance, audit, or clinical governance.
  • Training in quality improvement, patient safety, or health management is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical standards, evidence-based practice, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Strong communication, leadership, and training skills.
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
