How you'll contribute

Coalition Management

Oversee the day-to-day operation of a global coalition, including:

  • Drive participation in workstreams by ensuring topics are timely, relevant, and actionable for members. Wherever possible, attend monthly workstream meetings.
  • Work with workstream coordinators to develop agendas, recruit and prep speakers, and convene regular all-hands coalition meetings, with an eye towards promoting a diversity of voices and viewpoints.
  • Identify areas for cross-workstream collaboration and coordinate such collaborations, especially where they have the potential to drive towards the coalition's goals. Track and seize campaign opportunities based on inflection points in industry, international momentum, and policy opportunities.
  • Develop shared coalition priorities and translate them into action plans, agendas, and timelines.
  • Identify and recruit prospective coalition members. Develop onboarding protocol for new members including coalition orientation, communications, and workstream introductions.
  • As needed, develop new workstreams based on collective appetite to collaborate across tactics or targets.
  • Periodically, provide on-site logistical and administrative support for coalition meetings and convenings.
  • Support and/or lead the implementation of plans leveraging knowledge of prior work with members, identification of opportunities for collaborations with an in-depth understanding of budgets, timelines, and other requirements.

Strategy Development

  • Develop a shared strategy for the coalition in coordination with the steering committee.
  • Regularly update strategy and aims, based on coalition feedback and funding availability.
  • Coordinate with coalition members to implement strategic campaigns to undermine the social license and political influence of climate intensive industries.
  • Garner coalition buy-in and build alignment behind shared strategy and aims.
  • Identify and explore areas for expansion for the coalition, both across geographies and intervention points. Prioritize expansion areas based on field appetite and funding availability.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, refinement and / or adaptation of grantmaking strategies and in planning future program strategies;
  • Identify prospective grant recipients and work with prospective grant recipients to develop proposals as applicable.
  • Make recommendations on the distribution of funding based on available resources and coalition priorities.

Members Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with members by deeply understanding their work, their unique needs and processes, and their local jurisdiction requirements to collaboratively identify the most effective, relevant pathways to funding while ensuring a positive experience.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for members for needs related to managing grants, creatively problem solving as complex grant issues arise, and negotiating in multiple directions to meet internal and external requirements.

Fundraising

  • Develop and distribute quarterly updates on coalition activities, achievements, and future focus to coalition members and interested funders.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of potential funders for coalition, with a focus on driving funding to the field.
  • Leverage existing coalition funders to attract, educate, and recruit new funding for the coalition at an infrastructure and program level.
  • Represent coalition to funders at relevant events (e.g. Funders Table, etc.), developing materials with the support of Meliore’s fundraising team and serving as the main point of contact for existing and potential funders.

Organizational Collaboration and Development

  • Provide regular updates on the coalition, its membership, and its priorities to Meliore staff.
  • Identify areas for collaboration across Meliore initiatives.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities and participate in Foundation-wide training sessions.
  • Oversee the program’s finances and ensure efficient allocation of funds.

  • Demonstrated experience managing programs in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and/or coalitions.
  • Experience in campaigns or strategic communications and in project management
  • Experience in designing influence campaigns, in coordination with external partners, with a deep understanding of the environmental landscape.
  • Experience in developing communication strategies.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage complex stakeholder relationships where competing agendas and priorities exist.
  • Experience delivering communication and engagement as they apply to successful coalition coordination.
  • High-level organisational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to think laterally and conceptually.
  • Strong time and priority management, a high level of independence, and a can-do mentality.
  • Strong project management and collaboration skills and an ability to build trust with colleagues and partners.
