Responsibilities
The intern will work with the RSB and support the overall technical and coordination needs related to the implementation of the Branch’s projects and programmes, as well as assist in coordinating activities across the 18 Regional Seas. Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, the intern will:
- Draft and produce communication materials in different formats, for example, Regional Seas newsletters, website articles, social media content, briefs, talking points, speeches and human-interest stories.
- Develop and edit multimedia content like photos, videos, infographics, presentations, and other visibility materials that support Regional Seas communication outputs.
- Support the planning and delivery of communication campaigns and visibility efforts for key events, including the Regional Seas global meetings, World Cleanup Day, and United Nations Climate Change Conference.
- Support the sharing of communication products through digital platforms, media outlets, and partner networks, while updating and maintaining Regional Seas communication platforms by uploading news, events, and publications and keeping the content and editorial plan up to date.
- Perform other duties to support the work of the Branch, as requested and in accordance with the Intern's interests.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: - Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent);
Have graduated with a university degree in journalism and communications, media production, graphic design, information technology, or a related field. In addition:
- Demonstrate pleasant interpersonal skills.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Has a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.
Do you have a background in communications, journalism, media, or a related field? No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Program.
Your training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
